What does the perfect jet ski ride on Possum Kingdom Lake look like to you? For many visitors, the wide-open water, scenic cliffside views, and magical hidden coves around Possum Kingdom are the perfect backdrop for a day out on a Sea-Doo.

Whether you are in the midst of planning a full Possum Kingdom Lake vacation or just passing through for the weekend, renting a jet ski is one of the most exciting ways to experience the lake firsthand.

If you’ve never booked a PK Lake jet ski rental before, here’s everything you need to know about rental costs, what to bring, how to prepare, and how to make the most of your day on Possum Kingdom Lake.

How to Rent a Jet Ski at The Cliffs Marina

Have you already booked your Possum Kingdom Lake vacation? If so, now all you have to worry about is setting up your jet-ski rental; don’t worry, this is the easy part! At The Cliffs Marina, it’s a pretty straightforward process, even if it’s your first time.

We recommend booking your jet-ski rental in advance, especially if you’re planning on coming on the weekends or any major holidays; slots tend to fill up fast.

Step 1: Check Availability

Start by checking available rental dates and times online, or give the marina a call if you have further questions about availability, rental requirements, or current conditions on the lake.

Step 2: Reserve Your Rental

After you’ve nailed down a time that works for your schedule, complete your reservation online

Step 3: Arrive at the Marina Ready to Ride

Plan to arrive a little ahead of schedule, so you don’t waste any precious time out on the water. Be sure to bring a valid photo ID and any required boater education documentation (see more info below), if applicable.

Before you set out on your adventure, the marina staff will walk you through the operation of the jet ski, review any important safety information, and answer any last-minute questions you might have so you feel confident before heading out.

What Does a Jet Ski Rental Cost?

One of the most common questions travelers ask before visiting the lake is about jet ski rental costs. On PK Lake, jet ski rentals can be priced in a range that fluctuates based on the time of year, weekday vs. weekend, rental duration, fuel policies, and the type of personal watercraft.

At The Cliffs Marina, 2026 weekday rates for personal watercraft rentals begin at $90 per hour, plus tax and fuel, while weekend rates begin at $110 per hour, plus tax and fuel.

Do You Need a License to Drive a Jet-Ski in Texas?

Before you book your jet-ski rental, there are a few things you might want to review regarding Texas boating education requirements. The requirements apply to both boats and personal watercraft (PWC).

You’ll need boater education if you:

  • Were born on or after September 1, 1993, and plan to operate a jet ski or other personal watercraft.
  • Plan to operate a motorized vessel with more than 15 horsepower on your own.

You may not need to complete the course if you:

  • Were born before September 1, 1993.
  • Will be riding with someone who is legally authorized to operate the jet ski (if you otherwise require boater education).

Even if, under Texas laws, you aren’t obligated to take the boater education course, we highly recommend it for anyone who hasn’t driven a jet ski or boat before, or needs a refresher on basic boating rules.

Approved online courses start at around $10 and can help first-time riders feel much more confident before heading out on the lake.

Safety Tips for First-Time Riders

Even though anyone at any skill level can ride a jet ski, safety should always be at the forefront of your mind, even if you’re a seasoned watersport warrior.

Important Safety Reminders

You should always take yourself through a quick safety checklist before heading out for the day.

  • Always wear your life jacket (yes, even if you were the star swimmer on your childhood swim team)
  • Maintain safe distances from docks, boats, and other riders – this isn’t bumper boats
  • Always look out for swimmers
  • Avoid sharp turns at high speed
  • Keep both hands on the handlebars when riding – save the Instagram photos for when you’re safely stopped
  • Slow down in crowded marina areas (everyone appreciates a respectful rider)
  • Always be aware of potential weather changes (Texas storms can move in quickly, and lightning on open water is never part of the adventure)

If you’re in for a more relaxing ride, heading out in the morning is a good insurance policy to avoid afternoon boat traffic. For most, early mornings out on Possum Kingdom provide the most stunning scenery, glassy calm water, and clear blue skies, with the peaceful wake of the water as your soundtrack.

Planning the Perfect Jet Ski Ride on Possum Kingdom Lake

The key to a great day out on the water is all about preparation. If you want to fully maximize your time, run through a lake day checklist to make sure you’re ready for your beautiful sunny day out on PK Lake.

What to Bring for Your Rental Day

The Texas summer heat is no joke, so staying hydrated and protected from the harsh UV rays is essential. Pack up your bag with all lakeside essentials before you head out.

Here’s a simple lake-day checklist before arriving at the marina:

  • Swimsuit or quick-dry clothing
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Water shoes or sandals
  • Waterproof phone pouch
  • Towels
  • Plenty of drinking water
  • Snacks for longer outings
  • Valid ID
